Useful Facts About Bhutan

Temperature in Thimphu may range from a low of around 13 Degree Celsius to around 24 Degree Celsius depending on the day. Since it is monsoon season in Bhutan, rain is expected. Delegates are advised to carry a raincoat or an umbrella. Temperature in Paro may range from 12 Degrees Celsius to around 24 Degree Celsius.

Delegates are advised to carry cash. Most establishment in Bhutan do not take cards. The Ngultrum (Nu.) is the Bhutanese currency. The current exchange rate is USD 1 = Nu. 82 (approx.) for denomination USD 50 and above. The exchange rate for USD denomination 20 and below ranges from Nu. 78 to Nu. 80. Money exchange services are available in the airport at both the arrival and departure terminals. Banks in Bhutan are open from 9:00 AM to 03:00 PM.

Bhutanese cuisine varies from valley to valley. Most common are staple rice, meat (chicken, fish, pork, beef and mutton), vegetables, chilli and cheese. However, other cuisine such as American, other Asian, European, Chinese, French, Indian, Japanese and Thai are also available.

Roaming services may not be available for all network carriers. Local sim cards can be purchased at the airport.

Bhutan operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. There are three associated plug types: C, D and G. Le Méridien Thimphu specifically uses type D and G. In case your devices’ plugs are different, it’s advisable to carry an adapter.

Logistics

Sponsored delegates will be provided return/round trip air ticket in economy class to arrive in Paro, Bhutan.

CPDAP and The PEMA facilitated the visa process for all delegates. The CPDAP is responsible for the

visa fees of all the delegates. Delegates are advised to check for transit visa requirements if they are connecting at a third airport.

Airport transfers (pick-up and drop-off) will be provided for all delegates in Bhutan by The PEMA Secretariat. Please check for the Colombo Plan sign at the immigration clearance. For official commute, transportation will be prearranged. Local taxis are available for personal travel.

Accommodation (single room with breakfast) has been arranged at the Le Méridien Thimphu, Chorten Lam, Thimphu, Bhutan (meeting venue) during the meeting days. Lunch and two coffee/ tea breaks will be provided during the meeting. Self-sponsored delegates are advised to make advance payment to the hotel. The payment link has been shared.
